Sal Mastriani
Vice President of Risk Management, Waste Services (IWS)
Salvatore “Sal” Mastriani is vice president of risk management at Interstate Waste Services (IWS), where he oversees all aspects of risk management and regulatory compliance across company operations. In this role, he helps develop and implement robust standards and protocols that not only meet but exceed industry benchmarks, fostering a strong and continuously evolving culture of safety, risk awareness and compliance throughout IWS.
Sal began his career in the insurance and risk management industry in 1989 and brings more than 30 years of experience in risk mitigation, auditing, claims management, compliance and underwriting. Since joining IWS in 2013, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s comprehensive approach to safety and risk management.
Highly engaged within the waste and recycling industry, Sal has contributed to numerous professional organizations and committees, including Together for Safer Roads, National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA), Solid Waste Association of North America, Risk and Insurance Management Society, American National Standards Institute, New York State Solid Waste Association and BIC Safety Committee. He currently serves as a board member of NWRA.
A recognized thought leader, Sal was a key contributor to the development of the BIC Safety Manual and is frequently sought for his expertise in leading safety initiatives and industry forums. His involvement includes participation in the NYC Safety Symposium and New York City’s Vision Zero program, where he served as a committee member working with Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez to support the city’s traffic safety goals.
